Happy Anniversary! What a year – and what a story you two are creating! I love that you aren’t a Lifetime movie, but that you are an example of Life!

Beautifully written. I love the part about never knowing the recipe (and feel the same about people who try to give us one). Love your honesty. This is real life. Hope the beach air is good to both of you! 🙂

I’m happy I spent the two minutes I’m allowed per day to sit down on reading this essay. Lovely, Emily!

Perfection. I love your writing, Em. And isn’t it so true- no one CAN tell you how; it’s all about what you do when the training wheels come off, when the steadying hand releases you and you find you can take the road rash because of the “woo hoo!, wind in your hair”, the beauty in unexpected small moments. And even when the purple glitter and tassles have seen better days, when the chain is rusty and when your rear wheel doesn’t realize that the splattered mud it’s been kicking up onto the back of your shirt isn’t the look you’re going for(!), even when the breaks squeal and the gears clang, it hits you that you and that darn bike have some pretty great history. You both clean up well but there’s also beauty in that rusty, mud-splattered, road-rashed, downhill-uphill ride…and together you’ve got “miles to go before you sleep”. And don’t forget to look up/to your right- the girl with the banana seat and tattered white basket is pedaling right beside you! XO- Gallo sisters forever.

My fiancé and I have been living an essentially married life for a few years now and we are set to seal the deal in a little less than a year. There are so many people who are telling me how things will or will not go but it’s always the same message. It always leaves me wondering how they could possibly know. This was honest and raw and exactly what I needed.

I just think this is one of the best blog posts I’ve ever read.
I love your acceptance of things, your dogged determination, your tired ‘realness’.
I don’t get these stupid ’10 ways to….’ posts and columns. God knows why people actually get PAID for that kind of crap! I know that life makes everyone to get real at some point. I like it that you are someone who has, and is ‘real’.
What the world needs, what relationships need, is more honesty.

Thanks so much for such a great piece of writing. It’s courage is outstanding!
