“I smell winter, Mom!” That’s what our 10-year old said on Wednesday night when we all slept with the windows gloriously open; crisp air coming into her bedroom as I was putting her to bed.
I don’t know if I’m QUITE ready for winter yet. I happen to love Fall and, like many of you, I’m not quite ready to let go of summer.
Summer. It was a great one. I was spoiled by lots of time at home with our daughters and my husband (as I job searched). And definitely spoiled by a glorious trip to paradise for 2 weeks (aka Hawaii) to see much-loved family and enjoy a much-needed “stress detox”. Sleeping with the windows open in Hawaii meant being treated to the island breezes blowing through backyard bamboo, the hot, wet smell of evening rain on pavement, the intoxicating scent of plumeria in the air as temperatures cooled for the night.
But weeks have passed already since our escape to paradise and I must admit, I smell winter too- the crisp coolness of the early morning and late evening, literally signaling a change in the air, gives me a new anticipation… for chilly soccer sidelines, sweaters, leaves of red and gold, s’mores, snowflakes and evenings by the fireplace.
Can’t you just smell it?
