About Us

Patience and fortitude conquer all things –Ralph Waldo Emerson

A Fourtuitous Story:

A funny thing happened. I took stock of my life, stepped away from my career, picked up my diaper bag (8 grocery bags, two laundry baskets and a baby, too), and then I almost threw up. Thankfully, when I saw past the three children pawing at my legs, I noticed three fabulous women who were knee-deep in their own transitions. I felt safer knowing I wasn’t navigating change alone. Naturally, I blackmailed them (there’s no shame in it) to write a blog chronicling their lives as they figured out who they were now, where they were going, and how they were going to get there.

In less than a year, unexpected events altered the course of their lives and Amelia, Rose and Cathy found inspiration and obligations in other places. That’s the way it is, and that’s the way it should be. How fortuitous!

Me? Emily. I’m still here.

I picked up one of my favorite women, Michelle, and we are going to do this. And do this hard.

We’re keeping our name because well, a random string of events brought us here, a random string of events shifted the waters, but we can make this thing float anyway.

Fourtuitous. We’re not FOUR women anymore. Instead, Fourtuitous is the serendiptious mess when FOUR worlds collide: acheterdufrance.com home, family, culture and career.

We are so glad you stopped by for a visit!

Here’s sneak peek at who we are:

Emily’s Bio:

I was a career woman. “Mommy!” I was re-writing the image of teacher as matronly school marm with my up-to-the-minute fashion sense, “Maaaaameeee…” ear on the pulse of pop culture and art,“Mamamamama.” active engagement in the pedagogical conversation, “Mahmeeeee!” Now, I’m transitioning to the terrifying role of stay-at-home “Maaaaaaaa” mom to three precious little ones, “Mommommommommom” who are challenging me and “MoMoMoMO!” opening my eyes to what’s really important. “Wipe me!”

Follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. There’s a big ol’ hug and a kiss waiting for you. Don’t worry. I washed my hands.

Michelle’s Bio:

I’m guilty of many things:

  • I’m guilty of loving what I do MORE everyday, because I’m surrounded by women and men who motivate me and make me want to work harder.
  • I’m guilty of loving the fact that most nights I come home to bathed kids in bed (I feel awful typing that…but it’s.so.TRUE!)
  • I’m guilty of knowing my job as a fitness instructor is my guilty pleasure. I would rather spend an hour with smiling sweaty women and men, than by myself with a jar of Nutella (THAT was VERY hard to admit.)
  • I’m ABSOLUTELY guilty of loving my family UNCONDITIONALLY.

But I know in order for me to take care of them, I have to also take care of myself (and THAT was REALLY hard to write).

We hope you’ll sit and stay a little while, and we hope you’ll come back again and again!

This blog sounds very girlcentric, but interesting, so I hope it’s ok for a man to follow! I’m not trying to steal girl stuff for the other side, I promise!

Cathy is Emily’s mom. Michelle and Emily are bffs 🙂 Rose and Emily are sisters-in-law. Emily blackmailed everyone, so they’d contribute to a blog!

Ladies, I have read entries periodically and absolutely love this blog and admire all of you! Michelle and Emily, you were strong women at MHS and I see you are stronger as mothers and women as you follow your dreams! Taking the leap is difficult! When I left MHS to follow my dream as a college professor, there were (and still are) many days that I longed for the comfort and camaraderie of MHS. Still there were many more days that I longed to give up my career and stay at home with my daughter! She is now 20 and a strong, caring woman starting her junior year of college. She is currently doing an internship in Texas for the summer! Though I miss her every day I am so proud of the woman she has become and I laugh and cry at her antics in the desert! This motherhood thing is a beautiful, frustrating, dynamic, stressful, heartfelt thing that I think none of us would trade for anything! I hope you ladies keep up the awesome stories and support for one another. There is no substitute for it! Thanks for letting me have a glimpse and smile through the reminiscing of my own child’s younger days! Love to all!
